Exposure and response prevention is a form of CBT developed specifically for OCD. NICE guidance places it at the core of psychological treatment for OCD in adults.
It involves gradually and deliberately approaching the thoughts, images and situations that trigger your OCD, while resisting the compulsions that usually follow. Over time your brain learns that the anxiety passes on its own, and the urge to perform rituals weakens.

Do I have to face my worst fear straight away?
No. We start with something small and agreed, and you decide when to move up.
What if I am ashamed of my thoughts?
Intrusive thoughts are extremely common in OCD and say nothing about who you are. Nothing you share will shock me.
Is ERP different from general CBT?
ERP is a specific form of CBT designed for OCD, with exposure work at its centre.
