About Ben

Ben White, integrative counsellor

I'm Ben, a BACP accredited counsellor working with individual adults in Hackney, Peckham, East Dulwich and online. I came to therapy personally after reaching a point where my life felt out of control, and that experience is why I do this work.

My story

Why I became a therapist

Ben White smiling, in a blue shirt

I started therapy when my life no longer made sense and I knew I couldn’t continue on the path I was on.

Therapy allowed me to find a way forward and to write a new, brighter future for myself. I hope that this is the kind of change I can support my clients to achieve.

That experience led me to train as a counsellor, and to a Masters in Addiction Psychology and Counselling. My research background is in problematic smartphone and social media use, and I have gone on to train in exposure and response prevention for OCD and trauma‑focused CBT.

I have worked in a variety of mental health settings, with asylum seekers and refugees, young adults in care, those wanting to change their behaviour around drugs and alcohol in the community and within prisons. I have also worked as the Clinical Manager in a rehab, managing a team of counsellors who treat addiction and trauma in a residential setting.

My approach is calm, collaborative and focused on helping people make sense of difficult experiences. Today I work with individual adults in three quiet rooms in Hackney, Peckham and East Dulwich, and online across the UK.

How I work

Evidence‑based methods, human pace

Choice and pacing come first

You decide what we talk about and how fast we go. ERP and trauma work in particular only succeed when you are genuinely on board with each step.

Honest, plain communication

I explain what we are doing and why. You should never feel that therapy is something being done to you.

Structure with warmth

CBT and ERP give the work shape and evidence. Person‑centred listening makes sure it fits your life and what matters to you, rather than a manual.

Is this the right fit?

I'm likely to be a good match if…

  • You're an adult dealing with anxiety, OCD, addiction or a harsh inner critic
  • You want practical, structured work as well as a place to be heard
  • You'd like in‑person sessions in Hackney, Peckham or East Dulwich, or online
If you need something I don't offer, such as couples therapy, work with under‑18s, or urgent crisis support, I'll say so in the intro call and point you towards someone who does.Book a free intro callRead common questions →
